Tom is the third garden designer we have commissioned over the last 30 odd years; he out-ranks the others easily with his rare ability to provide a beautiful planting plan whilst supporting it with dimensioned detailing that a civil engineer would be proud of.

He has proven to be empathetic to both our needs and the needs of the plants he recommends. He has clearly demonstrated competency and creativity, not only with lovely planting schemes but also in other design aspects such as a water feature winding down a slope, enhanced by Purbeck stone arches and underwater lighting.

We’re absolutely delighted with the work carried out by Tom Hill. His design for our garden was impressive, combining creativity with a real understanding of what would suit the space best. The finished result exceeded our expectations, and it’s clear he has extensive knowledge and experience in his field. Everyone who visits comments on how amazing the garden looks, and it’s no surprise Tom has such a great reputation – we would happily recommend him to anyone looking for a professional and talented landscape gardener.

Our former small, urban garden was becoming increasingly unusable year upon year by being impractically designed originally and then very overgrown, dark and virtually impassable in places, despite our attempts to keep it under control and attractive. It was a losing battle until we decided we either had to move house or transform the garden and for that we would need professional help. To our great good fortune Tom Hill was able to take on the challenge of completely recreating this difficult garden and in our case, went further than the design work to actually build it himself as Tom’s skill encompass the artistic, the architectural, plantsman expertise, plus walling and timber crafts.  His very clever design completely reimagined what the garden could be, managing to incorporate every single one of our ambitious wishes. Last summer we took possession of the completed masterpiece: a beautifully curated garden of harmonious, romantic, fragrant planting held within meticulously built structures of low walling which double as seating. Hard landscaping in mellow shades match the paving and careful timber work Tom built containing our new outdoor kitchen and woodstore. We now have a garden that is visually very lovely, is eminently practical by linking social areas for entertaining with quieter areas to enjoy the view and sound of our unique water feature, also designed by Tom. The garden works beautifully in the day as well as being magical by night under subtle lighting. The garden is now a pleasure to look out on from within the house or our new garden eco-office and it receives many admiring compliments from visitors. We know our oasis can only improve further in beauty and tranquility as the years go on.
