Nestled within a sloped woodland setting, this garden was originally a fragmented and inaccessible space, with steep level changes and limited usable areas—aside from a small deck behind the property—it lacked cohesion, structure, and flow.

The design vision was to transform the garden into a journey through nature, inspired by the contemporary architecture of the home. The style reflects modern sensibilities while remaining deeply connected to the woodland surroundings. Materials were chosen with care to complement the environment: charred timber boardwalks and decking blend naturally into the landscape, while bespoke Corten steel elements mirror the warm tones of pine bark, adding sculptural interest without dominating the space.

The garden is arranged across two distinct levels. The upper level features sculptural concrete paths that weave through woodland planting, creating a calm and immersive experience. Visitors descend to the lower level via custom-built Corten steel steps, arriving at a secluded deck designed for relaxation. This area connects to a suspended mesh walkway, offering a unique perspective of the planting below as one moves through the space toward a hidden cabin.

The cabin is accessed via architectural steps that double as seating around a bioethanol fire, creating a multifunctional space that encourages warmth and social interaction. The design maintains a minimalist footprint, allowing planting and biodiversity to take centre stage.

Every element was thoughtfully considered to enhance movement, create moments of pause, and celebrate the natural beauty of the site. The result is a garden that feels both contemporary and timeless—an immersive woodland retreat that invites curiosity, calm, and connection.
